Trading Stocks Doesn't Have to be Difficult

When it is said that stock market trading doesn't have to be difficult, that doesn't mean that it will be overly easy either.  Most traders have a proclivity to over complicate the act of trading.  The truth is that trading doesn't have to be more difficult than you choose for it to be.  Although there is a certain amount of uncertainty and quite frankly luck, most traders seem to go out of their way to make it more difficult than it absolutely has to be.

Simplify Your Trading

There are a few things you can do to simplify stock market trading, which is especially useful as you are starting out.  One such trick can be to limit the amount of stocks you follow.  Many traders make the mistake of trying to follow the entire market.  But if you pay attention, most analysts only follow particular sector or just a handful stocks.  Instead of trying to track over 5000 stocks, (in the case of the United States) try following just be Dow Jones Industrial 30.  This will allow you to follow companies in various sectors, without having to track hundreds and hundreds of stocks.

Avoid The News

Another way to simplify stock market trading is to absolutely, positively, without exception avoid any news related trading.  Earnings announcements, economic announcements, and political speeches can make the market swing wildly in an instant. The biggest problem with news trading is that you have to be able to understand what thousands of stock traders around the world are thinking about particular announcement.  Since being a clairvoyant is probably above your pay grade, you are better off avoiding these extremely volatile times.

Larger Time Frames

One of the more reliable things that are available to stock trader, is simply the larger time frames.  A weekly or even monthly chart can give a good indication of the tendency of the particular stock you are trading.  For example, if you notice that IBM is in an uptrend over the last two years, you will simply look for buying opportunities and ignore all selling signals.  This keeps the wind at your back, tends to allow for a little bit more flexibility on your entries, and assures you that there are plenty of other traders willing to push prices in your direction.

While stock market trading can be very challenging, you need to set yourself up in a position to succeed. By taking a lot of the confusion and stress out of the trading day, you can stack the odds in your favor.
