The Sun Also Sets

Barack Obama was once a community organizer in Chicago.

Do not think that I am very much impressed by this title…

Nor do I think of it as giving him special knowledge about job creation in green technology…

But it means a lot to him.

Some say that everything happens for a reason.

That may be true...

And, admittedly, I like to think that it is.

Regardless if it is or isn’t, sometimes things and events occur that have symbolic or prophetic meaning…

Solyndra bankruptcy a symbolic failure

I think the bankruptcy of Solyndra solar panel company is one.

You will recall that just 12 months after receiving Barack Obama’s blessing…

Where he personally visited Solyndra’s headquarters…

And then made the firm the poster child of the Administration’s green jobs program…

And then handed over $500 million in US government loan guarantees to the company…

Which, last week, declared bankruptcy…

Right on schedule, as it turns out.

That’s right…

Solyndra blew through $500+ million in federal stimulus money in just about a year…

With about 1,100 employees, that’s about a half-million bucks a head…

That kind of money sounds pretty stimulating to me…

And pretty green, too.

So, let’s break this down…

Let’s walk through the rigorous process that Solyndra had to go to get over $500 million dollars of stimulus money…

Did they have to show that they could compete?

Not really, no…

Failed but chosen anyway

They were actually determined to be not competitive in the solar panel space whatsoever…

So how did this failure happen to such a smart, forward thinking, forward leaning Administration?

According to the latest information from Jonathan Silver, who heads the energy loan program…

It didn’t occur under the Obama Administration…

Like so many problems they have been faced with, it’s really just…

Bush’s fault…

Or so that’s what Mr. Silver told Congress the other day.

But in the light of day, so to speak, those are not the facts…

The facts are, according to Congressional probe results via ABC News, that
Solyndra’s loan application was begun in 2006…

But was turned down unanimouslyby the Bush Administration Energy Department in early 2009.

The reason?

Solyndra was deemed to be too risky of a bet.

The Energy Credit analysis showed that Solyndra would run out of cash by…

Are you ready for this?

September, 2011.

Gosh, who knew?

Solyndra’s loan application was turned down just before the Obama Administration took over.

So what happened?

The Obama Administration, of course, knew better than the Bush Administration…

So Solyndra turns up on the Obama Administration radar…how?

Had things changed?

Were they just killing it the solar panel market?

Did they have a unique corner in solar technology?

Well…no.

According to USA Today…

"In March 2010, the accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers issued a standard but stern warning about Solyndra... The company wasn't making money and never had, which raised 'substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern.'"

That would be during the Obama Administration, would it not?

Style over substance

So that’s how you get invited to the White House…

You go broke…

But make sure you’re going broke in a green tech industry…

Because really, you’re the future of energy, you’re what’s going to save us all from carbon particulates…

So Solyndra executives go the White House, meet the President…

Invite him down for a tour of the factory that makes solar panels that are twice as expensive as their competitors…

And shazamm!

You get a half-billion dollars…

That’s one hell of a business plan…

And how did Solyndra grab so much money when they were not competitive?

How indeed…

It turns out that the Obama’s stimulus money needed places to go…

And that “green jobs” were nominated to get the economy moving again…

And this information was backed up by…which research?

Apparently those charged with creating jobs-- and green jobs at that-- aren’t very smart or capable after all.

But stupidity at the federal level is a sturdy beast, not easily tamed…

And so while blowing a half billion dollars on a failed green energy company…

The Administration began to target and regulate “dirty” energy producers like the coal industry, with the aim of driving them out of business…

With geniuses like these as the helm, is it any wonder why we are in the fix we’re in?

The Solyndra Scandal is not noteworthy for its rarity, but because it shows the way this Administration works…

It shows the nation that they cannot, in fact, “create jobs.”

And that spending money because it fits their ideological views, is what they are really about…

But all is not always sunshine…

For the sun also sets on the community organizers, as well as on the wise...

And the sun is definitely setting on the Obama jobs plan…

I wonder, just what were they thinking?

...Yes it would be wonderful if green jobs grew on trees…

And that those trees grew on hills like white elephants…

Where we could live in a “green-tech” world…

With $500 million free dollars given to everyone?

But isn’t it a shame?

With just a few hundred million more dollars…

And a competitive solar panel..

Solyndra could’ve been a damned fine company.

Yes…isn’t it pretty to think so?

And those are…The Gorrie Details.
