Americans, we are told, are way too fat and unhealthy for our own good…
Just ask Michelle Obama, if you can catch her between bites of $100 a pound imported Kobe beef that has, since 2009, become an Obama favorite…
She’ll tell you exactly what you should put into your mouth.
But even so, rather than having the First Lady lecture the rest of us on what we ought to be eating…
Or New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, for that matter…
I think it’s high time that we start controlling what comes out of Washington D.C. instead…
Think about this question: Who is fatter than the contestants on “The Biggest Loser?”
Answer #1: The federal government, of course, and its ever-growing welfare state.
It not only is unable to create real jobs, but also can only destroy jobs. It is no coincidence that in a time when government spending is at its highest, that the amount of unemployed is at its highest and the number of Americans on welfare is at its highest.
Answer #2: The big American banks that have been fed more money than they know what to do with…
They are fat, bloated and inactive. Instead of lending to small businesses, they have become bond buyers, funding government programs.
Is our financial system healthy?
Is that what a healthy banking system looks like?
And what of the federally-favored corporations that have been given tons of taxpayer dollars to not succeed…
Except for succeeding in warping the market place?
How about putting them on a diet?
There is an epidemic of unhealthy behavior all right, and it starts at the very top…
No matter where you are…it’s all the same.
Think of the ongoing Euro Crisis…
Think of Greece, one of the poorest countries in Western Europe…
For years it got fat on Eurozone welfare…
Until it collapsed under its own weight.
Look at our own vast budget deficits…
Are we not on the brink of collapsing under our own weight while a record number of Americans are out of work?
Then, of course, there’s the Federal Reserve and the very likely prospects for a 3rd round of quantitative easing coming forward…
With the Fed raining another several hundred billion of our very favorite and newest dollars into…where else?
The banks.
All of these symptoms tell us—or should—that we’re in a very unhealthy place right now…
Don’t you think it’s time that we looked at things a little differently?
Isn’t it fair to say that the orgy of spending, money creation, and big brother-knows-better-than-you attitude we’ve been under for too many years is not working?
Whether it’s stimulus plans that are neither stimulating nor well planned, or high taxes that punish producers and reward too many of those who don’t work…
(Yes, I realize that some need the help, but really, there are many families that have been on welfare for three generations.)
And taxing the middle class to pay for the benefits of the other half of the households in the country that don’t pay federal income taxes isn’t the idea of fair and balanced…
But I have a sense that things are about to change…in fact, I think that they’re changing already.
Why do I say this?
The Biggest Loser
Because I look at what happened with the Facebook IPO and see that people are not buying what this Wall Street is selling…
Even though Facebook was hyped by the President himself before the IPO.
And at the same time, I look at the explosion of new companies and technologies that occurred without the consent or oversight of the federal government and see hope and progress began and directed by the private economy.
And finally, if you look at the states that are doing well in an otherwise cruel economy, you will see that it is those that tax and regulate the least…
In other words, they are doing the exact opposite of what the Administration believes in…
And people can see that what used to work can work again…
Come to think of it, Michelle Obama is actually right…
It’s true; America is too fat. The American government, that is…
It needs to go on a diet.
Perhaps the entire administration should go on a diet…
So by November, America just might be on the road back to economic health…
And Barack Obama may just become…the biggest loser.
Food for thought. Now if you don’t mind, think I’ll step out and get…a cheeseburger.
And those are…The Gorrie Details.
